<p>Sit in the cockpit and you'll realize that this is no ordinary
sports car. The low 400mm hip point gives you a super-sporty feel, while the
steering wheel, meters, shift and parking brake levers, switches, seats and
other details are designed to enhance your driving pleasure. A center point mark
is provided on the upper middle part of the instrument panel so you are able to
clearly determine the car's attitude and the tire's point of contact. All of
these design enhancements are based on functionality, endlessly stimulating the
driver's passion.</p>
Performance
Boxer Engine + Direct Injection D-45 Technology
An advanced sports engine regulates the Toyota 86's drive power. It was
created by combining next-generation D-45 technology with a boxer engine.
Displaying a smooth acceleration feel and faithful response to pedal operation,
this engine into which we put long development efforts provides a feeling of
"being under your own power" unique to the Toyota 86. With the adoption of this
engine that is like no other, we were able to create a beautiful sports car
design that comes from the low hood, along with superior handling that responds
perfectly to your every command.
Six-speed Manual Transmission
For this sports car, Toyota developed a new six-speed manual transmission
that achieves both sports car acceleration and excellent environmental
performance. The introduction of a short stroke mechanism along with a
triple-cone synchro system ideal for a sports car bring sensation that lets you
fully savor the pleasure of controlling a sports car.
TORSEN LSD
TORSEN LSD reduces the variations in movement of the left and right wheels.
Control is maintained with linear response and smooth torque transfer. *TORSEN

Suspension and Brakes
The front has MacPherson strut suspension, which offers superior space
efficiency and light weight. This provides a direct handling feel and superior
controllability. The rear has double wishbone suspension. Its high stiffness and
rear grip ensure sportiness and stability. The brakes feature good response and
precise deceleration control from low to high Gs, achieving a feeling of
stiffness. Additionally, the Toyota 86 adapts VSC that allows you to choose from
five different drive modes depending on driving conditions or your preferred
driving style.
Joy of driving
Toyota introduced an FR layout equipped with a boxer engine as early as the
1960s. The compact Toyota Sports 800 of that time was the culmination of this
technology. This unvarying 'equation', which achieves superior handling quality
and vehicle stability with the driver playing the leading rote, has been passed
down from generation to generation to the Toyota 86, creating today's "joy of
driving.

Luggage Space
<p>Lowering the rear seatback creates a surprisingly large luggage
space big enough for four tires or two golf bags.</p>
6-speed Automatic Transmission
<p>The lock-up clutch of the transmission operates from low speeds,
providing a more direct driving feel, and the semi-automatic transmission, lets
you enjoy sporty maneuvering.</p>
Saety
SRS Airbag
<p>The Toyota 86 has driver and passenger SRS airbags, SRS side and
curtain shield airbags. A driver's seat SRS knee airbag is also
available.</p><p>These airbags help secure safety
performance.</p>
